Our cardiology clinic is recommended for those who live with cardiovascular diseases, are exposed to increased amount of stress, have an internal disease, or do competitive sports. Cardiology screening is also recommended for those who had coronary disease or high cholesterol levels occurring in their families, or live with hypertension. Diabetic and smoking patients are especially recommended to attend a cardiology screening, as they have a higher risk of cardiovascular problems.
Which examinations and tests are performed?
ECG records the heart’s electrical activity. It is one of the most widely used tests and it may reveal several cardiac problems. Cardiologists primarily use it to detect arrhythmias and to examine heart beats, heart ventricles and the myocardium. ECG is sometimes taken during physical load because there are some heart diseases that can only be detected this way – this test is called cardiac stress test.
Holter test is an ECG test taken for 24 hours with a device continuously recording data. This diagnostic method is usually used to examine irregular heartbeats and chest pain but the effectiveness of medicine therapy can also be followed by it.
One of the most effective imaging diagnostic methods to examine heart valves and pericardium is heart ultrasound. The size of heart chambers and ventricular wall thickness can be measured exactly to the millimetre, and movement of walls and valves that set the direction of the circulating blood can be visualized. Heart ultrasound detects calcifications of valves and also valve thickness due to endocarditis.
