Shoulder surgery
If the shoulder surgeon recommends surgery, the point is to create a greater distance between the rotator cuff and the process of the shoulder blade during an arthroscopic operation lasting for 1 or 2 hours so that these do not collide when the arm is moved. The operation is performed as a one-day procedure, under general anesthesia or nerve block. During the operation, the intervention is performed from 2 or 3 small incisions (with a minimally invasive procedure), that poses a little burden on the body, thus accelerating the recovery period. After surgery, varying amount of pain may occur for 2 or 3 days, depending on the patient. After the amount of pain medication is set and the wound is re-dressed, our physiotherapist will teach the patient the physiotherapy exercises to be performed at home and if everything is alright, the patient is discharged home from our inpatient ward.

What are the steps of aftercare?
After the operation, we recommend complete unloading of the operated shoulder until the suture is removed (2 days), for which a shoulder sling is provided. Since the surgery is performed as a one-day procedure, the patient can leave the hospital the same day, however the injection to prevent thrombosis has to be given at home for the time specified by the doctor It is always essential to attend physiotherapy after the operation, and for this, we recommend the Rehabilitation Department of Emineo where the physiotherapists are not only generally trained, but also had special training for all types of surgeries performed in our Hospital. Only continuous and correct physiotherapy will support/increase the range of motion and the return of muscle strength.
But why is this good for the patient?
With the surgery, the patient can get rid of the constant pains that have limited him/her in daily life and work. By releasing the tendon, its rupture can be prevented, and the load capacity and range of motion increased.
If surgery is necessary, it is performed at Emineo Private Hospital with a modern arthroscopic method. The operation lasting for 1 or 2 hours is performed as a one-day procedure, under general anesthesia, nerve block, or local anesthesia. During the operation, the intervention is performed from 2 or 3 incisions of 1 cm (with a minimally invasive procedure), that poses a little burden on the body, thus accelerating the recovery period. During the procedure, the connective tissue is released between the articular capsule and the surrounding ligaments.

It is recommended to wear an arm sling for at least two weeks after surgery, which we will provide for you at our hospital. In severe cases, only shoulder replacement can bring a successful and effective solution. If the rotator cuff is intact, a half or complete prosthesis (hemi- or total arthroplasty) imitating the original shape (anatomical) may be considered under the age of 60. Ifthe rotator cuff is insufficient or over 70 years of age, reverse complete prosthesis implantation is recommended.
After surgery that lasts about 2 hours, the patient spends at least two nights in hospital. Because of the implant, the surgery is always performed under antibiotic protection. The patient is placed in a supine or a so-called beach chair position. After general anesthesia induction or nerve block, when analgesia or anesthesia kicked-in, surgical disinfection and cleaning the area in accordance with the rules of surgical disinfection and sterility, an incision of 15-20 cm is made over the front of the shoulder.
The wound is closed in several layers with a suture. The stitches should be removed after 5-10 days.
A drain can be inserted which is removed one day after surgery.

The operated limb is placed in an arm sling for 2-3 weeks, which is applied on the patient in the operating room. The mobility and load capacity of the limb is determined by other changes observed during the operation.
Thrombosis prevention (prophylaxis) is used with active venous exercise and early mobilization and administration of low molecular weight heparin, which can be self-administered by the patient. Wearing the arm sling is required for about two weeks and after this period, the patient can use the arm and the affected shoulder for simpler movements (dressing, eating). Lifting heavier objects, driving a car, performing extreme movements are allowed after at least six weeks. It is always essential to attend physiotherapy after the operation, and for this, we recommend the Rehabilitation Department of Emineo where the physiotherapists are not only generally trained, but also had special training for all types of surgeries performed in our Hospital. With the surgery, the patient can get rid of the constant pains that have limited him/her in daily life and work. Pain caused by shoulder joint wear can make the patient’s entire arm virtually unusable, and shoulder replacement can drastically increase the load capacity and range of motion.
If the shoulder surgeon recommends surgery, the operation will be performed as a one-day procedure, under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with nerve block. During the operation, the intervention is performed from 2 or 3 incisions of 1 cm (with a minimally invasive procedure), that poses a little burden on the body, thus accelerating the recovery period. During the arthroscopic operation that lasts about 2 hours, the tendon rupture is repaired and fixed with special plastic anchor screws.

After the amount of pain medication is set and the wound is re-dressed, our physiotherapist will teach the patient the physiotherapy exercises to be performed at home and if everything is alright, the patient is discharged home from our inpatient ward the next morning.

Only continuous and correct physiotherapy will support/increase the range of motion and the return of muscle strength. Why is this good for the patient?
After surgery, the pain is reduced; and a large percentage of muscle strength and freedom of movement can be regained.
In case of congenital connective tissue laxity and 2 or 3 dislocations, an arthroscopic surgery is performed, while in case of multiple dislocations, open surgery is suggested instead. The essence of the former is to stretch the articular capsule and ligaments using special anchor screws during am arthroscopic surgery, and thus stabilize the joint. The operation lasting for 2 or 3 hours is performed as a one-day procedure, under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with nerve block. During the operation, the intervention is performed from 2 or 3 small incisions (with a minimally invasive procedure), that poses a little burden on the body, thus accelerating the recovery period.
In the case of open surgery, the bony process close to the joint is transplanted with the help of screws from a small incision, enlarging the joint surface and tightening the soft parts. An overnight stay is recommended after surgery.
