Treating injuries of children in Emineo Trauma and Healthcare Centre.
Minimal waiting time (usually less than 15 minutes), silent and peaceful environment, and child-friendly staff make an ideal atmosphere for injured children who are naturally scared and intimidated, and want to get over the examination as soon as possible.
Children with mild injury who don’t need major surgical treatment, general anaesthesia or hospitalization can be well treated on an outpatient basis as their parents or guardians will take care of them at home.
Most children with mild injuries suffer motor organ injuries, such as sprains, bruises, dislocations or fractures with little or no dislocation. After the swelling is gone, we use plastic ‘cast’ which is more modern and comfortable than conventional plaster of Paris. Our Centre also provides post-trauma care such as exercise therapy and physical therapy in order to promote healing, strengthen the muscles of injured body parts and minimize the risk of further similar injuries.
Children with common soft tissue injuries (wounds) can be treated at our out-of-hour trauma clinic if there is no accompanying tendon, nerve or vascular injury. Soft tissue injury healing is significantly accelerated by Sensolite light therapy which is available in our clinic.
Unfortunately there are many children with injuries of the head. In mild cases, when there is no loss of consciousness, vomiting, somnolence, confusion or agitated behaviour, the child can be taken home after an examination by a specialist (pupil difference test and occasionally skull x-ray). Moderate and severe cases always need observation in a hospital. Our experienced specialists can decide which children need hospitalization and refer the child to the appropriate hospital.
Some paediatric injuries are associated with growth disturbances but deformity following an accident is able to improve spontaneously in many cases (the child ‘grows out of it’). Our specialists with special expertise in paediatric traumatology can give expert opinion and advice on the growth prognosis.
Of course everything should be done in order to prevent children’s accidents, but if they happen in spite of all the parents’ or guardians’ efforts, call our Centre right away and we can counsel you regarding the treatment of the injured child.
